About Us
Wine Journeys, Curated by People Who Live It
WHO WE ARE
Meet Doug & Julie Oldfield
Küper Wine Travel was born from a simple idea we’ve built our whole life around: wine tastes better when it comes with a story, and stories are best discovered in person. As the husband-and-wife owners of Küper Wine Bar in Longmont, Colorado, we’ve spent years introducing our community to wines from every corner of the globe — and we kept hearing the same question from our guests: “Can you take us there?” Küper Wine Travel is our answer.
From the Boardroom to the Barrel Room
Before wine became our full-time pursuit, Doug and Julie each spent years in corporate C-level leadership roles. That background shaped how we run Küper Wine Travel today: we plan with the same rigor we once brought to running a company, and we bring genuine hospitality to every detail, from airport pickup to the last pour of the trip. When we left the corporate world, it wasn’t to slow down — it was to spend our time on something we’re truly passionate about, and to share that passion with others.
Trained Palates, Approachable Style
Both Doug and Julie hold WSET Level 2 certification in Wine, formal training that grounds every tasting note, pairing, and itinerary we design in real technical knowledge. But you won’t find us talking down to anyone. At Küper Wine Bar, our whole philosophy is that wine should be approachable, not intimidating — and we carry that same spirit onto every trip. Whether you’re a lifelong collector or trying a Sangiovese for the first time, our goal is the same: help you taste with more confidence and more curiosity than when you started.
Well-Traveled, Well-Poured
We’ve personally led wine travelers through celebrated domestic and international wine regions, building relationships with winemakers, sommeliers, and small producers along the way. Our groups have ranged from intimate gatherings of ten to full-scale adventures of sixty, and no matter the size, we design every itinerary around the same idea: real access. That means private cellar visits, conversations with the people who actually make the wine, and pacing that leaves room to savor a region rather than just check it off a list.
What’s Ahead
We’re currently partnering with wine associations across Oregon, Washington, and California to bring their winery club members a new kind of journey: custom river cruises through Europe’s storied wine regions. We’re working directly with wineries along the route to build itineraries that go well beyond the standard shore excursion — because that’s the Küper difference. We don’t just book travel. We curate it, taste it, and stand behind every glass.
Join Us
Whether it’s a long weekend among the vines closer to home or a once-in-a-lifetime river voyage through Europe, we invite you to travel the way we do: curiously, generously, and always with a glass in hand. We can’t wait to meet old friends and make new ones — this time, somewhere in wine country.
